Faith formation

for all ages

We are a congregation that takes the care and guidance of your children seriously and we will do everything we can to create engaging, transformative learning experiences in a safe environment. To that end we do have a Safe Sanctuary Policy.

Children begin our time together in worship. After "A Time for the Child in All of Us," they are dismissed to go to class. Please know we welcome children and understand that kids make noise, want to move, ask questions when we don't expect it. This is just fine. We are happy you are here!

Nursery Care

A nursery is available for young children and their parents and best serves ages newborn-4. Changing and nursing facilities are available. Each service can be heard through the sound system so no parent misses out!

3K-5K

Linda Herrick: Children learn through stories, song and play how much God loves them and how very important they are in God’s eyes. They learn basic prayers and begin to dive into some of the most beloved stories in the Bible.

1st-3rd grade

Sara Wesseman, Maya Sheets, Jennifer Jablonowski: Learning is experience everything else is just information or so Albert Einstein said. Experintial and mission focused learning engages all our children in our Sunday School class.

1st-6th grade

Sarah Hein: Grade school children are guided though learning about the life of Jesus and how his teachings relate to their lives today. Children in this classroom are involved in many hands-on projects and often work as a group to become familiar with the Bible, become a part of the stories they are learning about and build on the principles they have learned in previous classes.

Staying Connected

Andrew Lemke: Young adults who are in 7th grade or older are welcome to join this open-discussion style class. This class features discussions on current events in our world as well as events within the church which impact their lives. A practical learning environment that fosters life-long learning within the faith is promoted.

Youth Group

Andrew Lemke and Pastor Mary Jane offer Youth activities throughout the year. These gatherings are open to children from 5th grade up

Confirmation Class

Pastor Mary Jane leads a Confirmation Class for student in 7th and 8th grade. The format varies to meet the needs of the families each year but over the course of the two years we study the Bible, the History and Polity of the United Church of Christ and the history and mission of St. John's Congregation.

bible study

Join us for weekly Bible study on Wednesday afternoon. We meet at 1 pm  in the Pastor's office. We study scripture, read books, watch movies and work together to integrate our faith and our living. We often enjoy a cup of tea together as well.
